Welcome to Sifu Gorme Kwong Sai Jook Lum Southern Praying Mantis Home Page.   By way of brief background, Sifu Gorme heads the Southern Praying Mantis system in South Florida.  Sifu Gorme's goal is to promote and maintain the authenticity and the traditional teachings of Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu.

Southern Praying Mantis is a Kung Fu style almost 200 years old, created in the Bamboo Forest Monastery, in the province of Kwong Sai, China.  Thus the name, Kwong Sai Jook Lum. Southern Praying Mantis is a  powerful and explosive close quarter fighting style which concentrates in developing internal power and the re-directing of the opponent's blows rather than relying on muscular strength when fighting an opponent.

Southern Praying Mantis practitioner develops strong stances and powerful low kicks. Southern Praying Mantis practitioner utilize sticky hands techniques which allows the practitioner to determine the opponent's body position and the parts of the opponent's body not protected and accessible for strikes.   In addition, the Southern Praying Mantis practitioner trains the hands in order to deliver powerful blows with the fingers, back fist, fist, edge of palm, and palms.  Finally, the practitioner's forearms are trained and developed to a level that the practitioner is capable of breaking the opponent's leg or arm when blocking the opponent's kicks or punches. However, training and strengthening of the forearms is not by means of weight lifting.
